INTRODUCTION

Moyse's Hall is a rare example of Norman domestic architecture, now used as a museum of local history. These pages look at the history and architecture of the building and at the two main collections of archaeology and local history. Whilst the building is described in some detail, as befits such an unusual building, these pages do not offer a comprehensive catalogue of the collections. Instead they try to provide a context for the exhibits and to draw visitors' attention to the most important and interesting items. The collection is large and unfortunately it is not possible to display all the items described in these pages all the time. However, the museum staff are very happy to answer visitors' questions about the collections.
