Bury St Edmunds has a diverse and somewhat idiosyncratic set of museums on offer. As well as the renowned Moyses Hall, with a history steeped in blood and murder, there are some of Queen Victoria's underwear at the Manor House, the vast array of timekeeping devices at the Clock Museum, and the perennial military history museum.

For the town that provided the setting for the first television series of "Lovejoy", it is not surprising to find a wide selection of art galleries and antique dealers. Nearby, the quintessential Suffolk villages, Lavenham and Long Melford abound with dealers, collectors, fairs and artists.
